THE Lapu-Lapu City Government is set to deploy mobile classrooms intended for those who stopped attending school, particularly amid the coronavirus disease (Covid- 19) pandemic.
Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan revealed this after his meeting with members of the city’s Local School Board (LSB) on Thursday, July 28, 2022.
Chan said the city government already purchased three tricycle-type vehicles that would serve as mobile classrooms.
These vehicles will be equipped with LED television sets and seats.
Chan said the mobile classrooms will be ready for deployment at the start of the new school year this coming August.
Island barangays
The mayor said they are planning to deploy these in Olango Island, particularly for those out-of-school youth or those who have stopped schooling.
Aside from school age children, mobile classrooms will also cater to daycare students and those who are availing of the Department of Education’s Alternative Learning System (ALS).
The city will also hire personnel to serve as teachers for the mobile classrooms, Chan added.
Aside from the tricycle-type vehicles, Chan plans to acquire four buses that they will convert into makeshift classrooms.
Apart from that, Chan said they are also planning to purchase tablets and computers for the students.
School repairs
Meanwhile, the mayor said the repair of schools that were damaged during the onslaught of Typhoon Odette (Rai) in the city had already started as part of the preparation for the opening of classes this August 22.
He said they had identified 11 schools that were damaged, wherein the City will shoulder the restoration of 12 of the 40 damaged classrooms.
