THE suspects in the killing of a 35-year-old construction worker in Minglanilla town, southern Cebu fell into the hands of the authorities on the same day they committed

the crime.

Jay Satorre, 23, the alleged gunman and his 16-year-old cohort, whose name is withheld for being a minor, both residents of Purok Tambis, Barangay Vito, Minglanilla,

were arrested in a follow-up operation by the Minglanilla police around 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2022, while they were playing billiards in their place, said Staff

Sergeant Retchel Antipuesto, investigating officer of Minglanilla Police Station.

Staff Sergeant Alan Villasurda, desk officer of Minglanilla Police Station, said Satorre admitted killing the victim, Jimmy Villasan of Barangay Calajo-an, Minglanilla, as

he took revenge after being beaten by the latter during the disco.

He, however, was not convinced by Satorre's statement.

"Sa iya ra ni nga akusasyon nga gikulata siya pero lisud katuohan kay wala may commotion nga nahitabo sa discohan ug wala pod siya'y mga marks o bun-og sa lawas,"

Villasurda said.

(This was his accusation that he was mauled but it's hard to believe him since no commotion took place during the disco and no bruises or injuries can be found in his

body).

The police, however, did not discount the possibility that the incident was fraternity related.

Judy Ann, sister of the victim, recalled that prior to the incident her brother told her that he would go to the nearby karaoke joint with his friends.

But she was surprised to hear from one of their cousins that her brother was with them attending a disco and was shot about 30 meters from the disco yard.

According to a witness, the victim was sitting on a motorcycle along the roadside when the suspect suddenly appeared and shot the victim on his head once.

After he fell off the motorcycle, the suspect finished him off by firing three more shots on his body.

The Emergency Rescue Team brought Villasan to Minglanilla District Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by attending physician, while the suspects fled after the

incident.

"Buotan to akong kuya, wala man na kaaway mao ra gyud akong ma hoyhoy, looy kaayo iyang mga anak gagmay pa," Judy Ann said.

(My brother was a good person, he had no enemy and he was the one whom I could turn to when I ask a favor, I pity him as his children are still very young).

The victim entrusted Judy Ann to look after his four children every time he went to work as his wife works as an overseas Filipino worker in Hongkong.

Judy Ann said they would file a case against Satorre as they want justice for their brother.

Satorre will face charges of murder. His 16-year-old cohort will be turned over to Department of Social Welfare Development. (GDC, TPT)
