P1M prize for Indak-Indak winner

PARTICIPANTS of the 34th Kadayawan Festival may win up to P1 million cash prize, according to Kadayawan Executive Commitee (ExeCom) spokesperson Davao City Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre on July 28, 2022.

Cash prizes ranging from P50,000 to P1 million is reserved for the winners of two major events, the Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan street dance competition and the Pamulak sa Kadayawan floral float parade.

Alejandre said during the I-Speak media forum that winners of the Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan for both the open category and school-based category may take home a cash prize of P200,000 to P1 million.

The first place winners will receive P1 million, second place will receive P500,000, P400,000 for third place, P300,000 for fourth place, and P200,000 for fifth place, while non-placers will still receive a consolation prize of P20,000 each.

Alejandre said the ExeCom is eyeing to extend the deadline of registration for the Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan to accommodate more interested participants.

“Siguro pwede siya hanggang first week of August, mao na among palugit regarding the deadline (They can register until the first week of August, that’s our ultimatum for the deadline),” he said.

For the Pamulak sa Kadayawan, winners in the big float category will receive P800,000 for first place, P600,000 for second place, and P400,000 for third place.

In the small float category, P400,000, P300,000, and P200,000 is reserved for the first, second, and third place winners, respectively.

At the same time, the alternative float category will give away P150,000, P75,000, and P50,000 respectively for the first, second, and third place winners, respectively.

Alejandre said the Pamulak sa Kadayawan will have at least ten floral floats in the big category and alternative category, and five floats in the small category. At least 20 floats from different Davao-based corporations are expected to participate as well.

The Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan street dance competition and Pamulak sa Kadayawan floral float parade will take place on August 20 and 21 respectively at the San Pedro Square in Davao City.

This year’s 34th Kadayawan sa Davao festival is the first major festival to be held face-to-face in the Philippines since the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak two years ago. At least 50,000 tourists are expected to grace the event.

The month-long celebration will begin on August 5 with the opening of the Kadayawan Tribal Village and will conclude on August 21 with Tambayayong sa Kadayawan. ICM
