HUNDREDS of cyclists of all ages and gender last weekend joined the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Pampanga Branch’s drive to gather coins and have them recirculated as well unfit banknotes that will be disposed.

Dubbed "Bisikleta Para sa Barya at sa Maduming Pera Season 2,” some 560 cyclists on July 30 took off from the BSP Pampanga’s grounds in Greenfields, Sindalan, San Fernando and took on a 36-kilometer route within the city.

BSP Area Director Atty. Ronaldo O. Bermudez said "Bisikleta Para sa Barya at sa Maduming Pera" was designed for public health and wellness while bringing the BSP closer to the people in a fun-filled way of disseminating information about the Central Bank's advocacies, policies and programs.

The participants, he said, paid with coins or unfit notes worth P300 for the registration fee which included a T-shirt, food, raffle prize and certificate of participation.

In attendance during the morning pedal-off ceremonies were City of San Fernando Mayor Vilma Caluag and councilors Brenz Gonzales and Tina Lagman.

"Bisikleta Para sa Barya at sa Maduming Pera Season 2” was made possible with the partnership of the provincial government of Pampanga headed by Governor Dennis Pineda and Vice Governor Lilia Pineda, and mayors Caluag, Diman Datu of Bacolor, Carmelo Lazatin, Jr. and Vice Mayor Vicky Vega of Angeles City, Jing Capil of Porac and the Porac Arts, Culture and Tourism Office.
