4-storey condo built for low-income Iloilo City hall workers

THE four-storey Uswag Low-Rise Residential Building for Iloilo City Government employees is intended for salary grade 8 and below with at least five years of working in City Hall as of December 31, 2021 including the services as job hire.

The 120-residential unit with a floor area of 30 square meters (sqm) in two twin buildings are now under construction on a 2,741-sqm, a portion of 16.2-hectare Uswag Subdivision owned by the city government.

This is a P247-M Housing Balance Compliance Project of SM Development Corporation (SMDC).The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has approved its implementation.

Mayor Jerry Treñas thanked partners for providing affordable homes to more low-income personnel.

Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO) head Rony Firmeza said they have been working with SMDC and DHSUD to fast track the completion.

"This shelter assistance scheme is not totally free, the beneficiaries will contribute each month for maintenance of the building, development of cooperative and livelihood project, and contribution to the social development fund, all totaling P2,000 a month," he stated.

The selection criteria were formulated by the ICUPAO technical working group composed of City Legal Office, City Treasurer’s Office, City Budget Office, City Assessor’s Office, City Engineer’s Office, City Planning and Development Office, and General Services Office.

The interested potential beneficiaries are submitting their social housing registration to ICUPAO prior to final selection.

The project is expected to be completed and turned over in 2023. (PR)
