TWO persons were killed in two separate shooting incidents in Cebu City.

Shot dead around 11:55 p.m. Tuesday, August 2, 2022, on Gen. Maxilom Avenue in Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City was Junny Cortes, 44 years old.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Jephta Jumawan, of the Abellana Police Station 2, said the victim was serving as escort of some foreign nationals who frequent Mango Avenue.

Two men were reportedly behind the shooting of Cortes. One of them approached the victim and then shot him. The other one was waiting in a motorcycle that was used as a get-away vehicle.

The Abellana Police Station is still facing a blank wall on the killing, but it is looking into personal grudge as possible motive in the incident.

A vendor, identified only as Danny, said that before the shooting, Cortes passed by his post to buy food and eat. The victim then left and they heard two gunshots.

Danny failed to see the gunman as he also ran to hide.

He said Cortes had a wife who was working near the area where the shooting happened.

About three hours after Cortes was shot, another man was gunned down, this time in Sitio Kauswagan, Barangay Basak Pardo, Cebu City.

Police Senior Master Sergeant Geoffre Gutual, chief investigator of Pardo police, identified the victim as Randy Flores Delos Santos, 34, a resident of Barangay Basak Pardo.

The incident happened around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

Gutual believes the person behind Delos Santos’ killing is the same person who killed the victim’s brother, Junril, on August 1, 2022.

Junril was also shot dead. He did not reach the hospital alive.

Randy, on the other hand, died hours after he was rushed to a hospital Wednesday.

Police are looking into the brothers’ possible involvement in illegal drug trade as motive in the killing. (BBT/LMY)
