AT LEAST 126 traffic personnel from the City Traffic Management System (CTMS) in Lapu-Lapu City are set to man the roads during the Ironman 70.3 Philippines on Sunday, August 7, 2022.

CTMS head Mario Napuli told SunStar Cebu on Thursday, August 4, 2022, that the traffic personnel will be deployed in various areas in the city that will be affected with road closures during the triathlon event.

Napuli said there will be no specific re-routing on Sunday, adding that the road closures would take place in Punta Engaño going to Mactan Junction to Marigondon to Subabanas, wherein there will be no access from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The first bridge and second bridge, according to Napuli, would still be open the entire day.

The CTMS head, however, advised the public to refrain from traveling to the affected areas or suspend their plans if these are not that important.

The affected barangays include Mactan, Punta Engaño, Maribago, Agus, Marigondon, and Subabasbas, the city’s Public Information Office announced on social media.

Just like Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan, Napuli also urged the public to travel ahead of the scheduled road closures to avoid inconvenience.

Chan also appealed to the general public, including motorists, to be patient should they experience heavy traffic.

He also gave the same advice to those who have scheduled flights on that day, adding that there will be establishments offering airport lounge for them to stay while waiting for their departure.

Apart from that, Chan also urged pet owners and caretakers of animals such as dog, cat, cow, goat, chicken, among others, to avoid them from getting into the race courses.

As of August 3, about 1,900 participants coming from 46 countries around the world already arrived in Cebu to join the much-awaited triathlon event. (MKG)
