THE South Road Properties (SRP) tunnel, Cebu South Coast Road viaduct, and SRP will be closed from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. on August 7, 2022 for the Ironman 70.3 Philippines.

Talisay City Mayor Gerald Anthony Gullas announced this in a Facebook post Thursday, August 4, as he appealed for the public’s understanding, especially the residents of Talisay and those from southern Cebu.

He said the closure is needed as the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX) will be used for the bike segment of the Ironman 70.3 Philippines.

“So kung gikan ka sa Talisay (if you’re coming from Talisay), the Cebu side of the SRP will be closed,” he said.

He advised those traveling from the south to use the N. Bacalso Avenue instead.

“But if you choose nga muagi sa SRP, dire lang mo muliko sa may Gaisano SRP Laray road paingon na sa Cebu City,” Gullas said.

“If padung ka sa south, N. Bacalso road is the only option,” he added.

Thousands of athletes are expected to join this year’s staging of the Ironman 70.3 Philippines, which will start and end at the Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City.

Mactan Newtown will also be the base for all the participants.

This year’s event will use the CCLEX as a race route for the first time. Past Ironman 70.3 staging in Cebu used the Marcelo Fernan Bridge, or the second bridge, in bike stages. (LMY)
