DAVAO City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte urged motorists to respect the pedestrian lanes for a safer road for all Dabawenyo commuters.

“Sunda ninyo para way mahayay kung madakpan mo. Akong maobserbahan lang nga kanang tagai pud ang mga pedestrian para sa mga tao nga gabaktas. Tagai pud ninyo gamay comfort, gamiton gyud nato ng mga pedestrian crossing kay mapansin nako naay mga sakyanan nga dire-diretso lang bitaw, unya naay gahuwat na mga tao motabok ba (Follow the traffic rules or you will regret it if you get caught. Also, allow the pedestrians to cross if they are crossing the pedestrian lane. I observed that some would attempt to speed past pedestrians when they are crossing),” Duterte said in an interview with the Davao City Disaster Radio on August 4, 2022.

Duterte said motorists in Davao City should also practice "give and take" action towards each other.

“Kita-kita lang pud bitaw ning syudara ni, kanang maghatagay ta labi na sa mga gabaktaas. Kung makakita mog pedestrian crossing nga naay gahuwat diha nga mga tao nga motabok, pataboka ninyo. Mao nay purpose anang mga baglis-baglis sa tunga diha sa dalan, gamita ninyo properly (At the end of the day, this is for us. If you see people about to cross the pedestrian lane, let them cross first. That is why we have a pedestrian lane in the middle of the road),” Duterte said.

Duterte said Dabawenyos urged to use the overpass to cross the street instead of jaywalking.

“Naa man gyud uban nga makalimot, di lang gyud motoman pero kung madakpan mo wa lang gyud tay mahayay. Naa nang mga balaod diha para sundon, wa na gibutang diha aron hasulon mo, para mana sa atoa (There are really people who tend to forget this, but once you will be caught don’t blame us. We have these rules to follow, not to bother you. This is for all of us),” Duterte said. KSD
