CSF-NYC 'sisterhood' eyed

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO San Fernando becoming a "sister city" of New York in the US is being eyed through cultural diplomacy and trade mission projects.

This was discussed by Consul General of the Philippines in New York Elmer G. Cato, who paid City Mayor Vilma Caluag a courtesy visit on Thursday, July 4, 2022 at Heroes Hall.

Cato, who is regarded as one of the highest ranking Kapampangans in foreign service, was joined by Pampanga Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. Director Rene G. Romero during the meeting.

Different projects to further deepen the cultural connection between Kapampangans, specifically San Fernando and Americans in the US were discussed.

Cato disclosed the possibility of having San Fernando become a sister city of New York and promote the Pampanga capital city and its products, as well as its culture and best practices.

The two officials also discussed plans for Caluag to visit New York City and see the Filipino and Kapampangan community in the US.

While lauding Cato for his continued service to the Filipino people and making all Kapampangans proud, Caluag also thanked the Consul General who hails from Pampanga for his relentless efforts in introducing the country specifically San Fernando and the province's culture in the US.

“Pasalamat tamu kang Mr. Elmer Cato para king balawus nang saup king pamag pakilala king gelingan ning San Fernando at ding Kapampangan at ning mabilug bansa king mabilug a yatu,” she said.

(We thank Mr. Cato for his support and help in introducing San Fernando, the Kapampangans and the country to the whole world).

“Mangarakal la pa reng akakit tamung malyaring maging proyektu bang apakilala pa ing talentu, gelingan at produktung Fernandinu keng abroad at king saup nang Mr. Cato keng New York,” Caluag added.

(There are more projects showcasing Fernandino talents and products that we see could be introduced by Mr. Cato in New York)

During the same meeting, San Fernando Archbishop Emeritus Paciano B. Aniceto offered blessings, support and guidance for Caluag's administration.
