POLICE and military troops have arrested two people and seized some P175,000 worth of smuggled cigarettes in a checkpoint operation in this southern port city, the police reported Friday, August 5, 2022.
Police Colonel Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, identified those arrested as Wadud Jamalul Abubakar, 38, and his cousin, Almujer Ayob Jimlah, 27, both residents of Mampang village.
Verceles said they were arrested around 9 p.m. Thursday, August 4, after policemen and soldiers manning a checkpoint found the car driven by Abubakar was loaded with some P175,000 worth of undocumented cigarettes concealed sacks.
Verceles said that Abubakar failed to present any documents, thus, the cigarettes were confiscated.
He said that Abubakar and his cousin, the car and cargo were turned over to the custody of the Bureau of Customs for proper disposition. (SunStar Zamboanga)
