8 Pinoy boxers see action overseas this weekend

It’ll be a busy weekend for Philippine boxing overseas as eight Pinoy pugs are seeing action in four various boxing shows in three different countries.

Adam Diu Abdulhamid challenges World Boxing Organization Asia-Pacific welterweight Ryota Toyoshima on Aug. 6, 2022 at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo, Japan.

Hamid is looking to bounce back after suffering a loss in Russia to Vitaly Petryakov in March.

Toyoshima is on a roll and won his last eight fights.

Abdulhamid is 17-10 with nine knockouts, while Toyoshima is 15-2-1 with nine knockouts.

Unbeaten Rechel Calo (3-0, 1 KO) is also seeing action in the same event against Junya Shimada (1-0) in a six-rounder.

The following day in Japan, grizzled veteran Jhunriel Ramonal (17-10-6, 10 KOs) locks horns with Japanese prospect Jinki Maeda (9-0, 4 KOs).

Meanwhile, Jenny Boy Boca (14-7, 12 KOs) and Ryan Rey Ponteras (23-15-3, 12 KOs) are challenging Thai opponents in regional title fights at the Spaceplus Bangkok RCA, Bangkok, Thailand on Aug. 6.

Boca challenges World Boxing Association (WBA) Asia flyweight champion Tanes Ongjunta (10-1, 5 KOs) in the main event.

Boca last fought in 2020, wherein he was stopped by former world title challenger Muhammad Waseem in eight rounds in Pakistan.

Ongjunta won his last six fights since losing to Pinoy Adrian Lerasan in 2020.

Ponteras, in the meantime, takes on WBA Asia bantamweight title Yutappong Tongdee (7-0, 4 KOs).

On Aug. 7, Romero Duno (24-3, 19 KOs), John Vincent Moralde (24-5, 13 KOs) and Mark Bernaldez (23-6, 17 KOs) keep themselves busy in keep-busy fights at the Casino Hollywood Milla de Oro in Medellin, Colombia.

Duno (24-3, 19 KOs) faces off with battle-scarred veteran Yogli Herrera (29-34, 21 KOs), Moralde slugs it out with Ernesto Vasquez (8-19, 4 KOs) and Bernaldez is fighting unheralded Jorge Bonilla (3-11-1).
