MANDAUE City Lone District Rep. Emmarie “Lolypop” Ouano-Dizon turned over four completed infrastructure projects worth P166 million to the municipal government of Consolacion on Thursday, August 4, 2022.
These projects include covered courts for Barangays Tilhaong and Panoypoy worth P8 million each; road concreting with a drainage facility from Barangays Polog to Panoypoy worth P75 million; and a riprap slope protection along a portion of Panoypoy worth P75 million.
During the turnover ceremony, Ouano-Dizon was accompanied by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) officials and some officials of the beneficiary barangays.
Ouano-Dizon told SunStar Cebu on Saturday, August 6, that these projects were initiated when she was still serving as congresswoman of Cebu’s sixth district from 2019 to 2022.
Ouano-Dizon ran uncontested in Mandaue’s congressional race during the May 9 elections. Now occupying the congressional seat in the sixth district is neophyte congresswoman Daphne Lagon.
Previously, Cebu’s sixth district covered the towns of Consolacion and Cordova and Mandaue City. But in 2019, Mandaue became a lone district after then President Rodrigo Duterte signed Republic Act 11257.
The covered courts of Barangays Tilhaong and Panoypoy, Ouano-Dizon said, were made after the two barangays requested with her office to have them constructed.
Ouano-Dizon said these covered courts will serve not only as recreational facilities but also as evacuation centers should there be calamities.
The first phase of these projects started in February last year, and the second phase started early this year, Ouano-Dizon said.
Safety and convenience of the public were Ouano-Dizon’s primary reasons for the road concreting project from Polog to Panoypoy.
The two barangays are among Consolacion’s landslide-prone areas along with Barangays Lanipga, Panas, Garing, Danglag, Tolotolo, Cabangahan and Sacsac as per the data of the Local Risk Reduction and Management Office (LDRRMO).
Ouano-Dizon added these road concreting projects would ensure safe travel and quick transport of agricultural produce and commodities in Barangays Polog, Panoypoy, and other villages in Consolacion.
