DAVAO Light and Power Company (Davao Light) said while they are already five percent through with the underground cabling for the Magsaysay Ave. area, the recent rains have been affecting the progress of the project.

“Sige’g ulan lately, naa tay na-encounter na mga unforeseen na mga situations like ang yuta sa Ramon Magsaysay is medyo silty sya gamay so buot pasabot pagkalot nimo ang kilid niya mobigay pud unlike sa kung solid gani kay pagkalot nimo limpyo lang sa kilid but karun pa gyud gaulan pa gyud kani siya mobigay, maong medyo careful ta gamay (It’s rainy season and we have encountered unforeseen situations like the soil in Ramon Magsaysay is quite silty. When we dig, the soil along the sides of the excavated area tends to erode),” Fermin Edillon, Davao Light Reputation Enhancement Department manager, said during the Kapehan in NCCC Victoria Plaza, Davao City on August 5, 2022.

Due to this possible delay, Davao Light said they already reached out to the City Transport and Traffic Management Office-Davao (CTTMO-Davao).

“In coordination with CTTMO, we are only allowed to operate og gabii, tanang utilities (at night, all utilities), starting 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., diha lang gyud ang working hour nato. Dili ta pwede motrabaho during busy hours (that’s the only time we can work and we can’t work during busy hours),” Edillon said.

However, Edillon said their underground cabling works could still affect the flow of traffic during the day.

“Maka-apekto gyud gamay kay naa man gud tay gina-excavate, normal man gud nga naa tay gina-excavate although ginatabunan man nato na siya, naa tay mga markings ginabutang but by default mohinay gyud ang flow sa traffic (It can still affect the flow of traffic because we are excavating. While we covered the excavated areas and have placed markings, it can still slow down traffic),” Edillon said.

Meanwhile, Edillon said they have already made some progress in the ongoing underground cabling project, which started on July 22, 2022.

“Out of 17 manhole nga i-put up, tulo na atong naset-up. Mo-ingon kag circuit kilometers, mao na siya ang linya nga atong gibutang, ang target is 1,400 meters karun naa na ta sa 142 meters na nahuman (We already put up three out of 17 target manholes. When it comes to the circuit kilometers that we are going to lay, we have already laid down 142 meters out of the target 1,400 meters),” Edillon said.

Meanwhile, the underground cabling of power lines along Ramon Magsaysay Avenue in Davao City is expected to be completed in two years. KSD
