VICTORIAS City's Ariel Joseph Alegarbes capped his journey at the 11th Asean Para Games at the Jatadiri Sports Complex in Semarang on Friday, August 5, with a third gold medal.
Alegarbes, 18, reigned supreme in the men's 50-meter freestyle S14 race, finishing the lapse in 25.74 seconds.
He duplicated the feat of female teammate Angel Otom last Thursday in a stint supported by the Philippine Sports Commission.
Earlier in the competition, Alegarbes bagged the gold medal in the men's 100-meter backstroke S14 event, surging in the last 10 meters to win in one minute and .03.01 seconds.
The Philippine swimmer beat Malaysia's Muhammad Imaan Aiman, who had wrested the lead at the 75-m mark but finished in 1:03.20.
Alegarbes also clinched the championship in the men's 50-butterfly S14 in 26.43 seconds, completing a golden double in his rookie stint in the biennial meet.
He made another history as the country's first triple gold medalist in the meet.
In December last year, Alegarbes made history as he was also the first Filipino to clinch a gold medal at the the Asian Youth Para Games held in Manama, Bahrain last December for the 100-meter butterfly S14 event.
He also won a silver medal in that event for the 100-meter backstroke S14.
