PRESIDENT Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. reminded policemen on Monday, August 8, 2022, to always let honesty and integrity prevail as they perform their duties and responsibilities as the country’s “vanguard of peace.”

Marcos, who attended the 121st Police Service Anniversary celebration in Camp Crame in Quezon City, commended the PNP for its tireless labor to maintain the peace and harmony in the country.

“I enjoined all of you to give it your best as you always have, without sacrificing your integrity as servants of the people. Let us be united in supporting the PNP leadership and its crusade against those who intend to inflict harm and disorder within our midst,” he said in his speech.

“Let us continue to conduct our business with utmost integrity and accountability and let us not allow even a hint of dishonesty and abuse to enter into that narrative,” he added.

Marcos urged the police to actively engage the public to ensure the peace and order in the communities, as well as maintain its gains for development and growth.

He reminded them that the application of their mandate must be firmly grounded on moral principles, integrity, accountability and honesty to ensure continuous public rapport, respect and support.

“The use of force must always be reasonable, justifiable and only undertaken when necessary. Execution of authority must be fair, it must be impartial, it must be devoid of favoritism and/or discrimination regardless of race, gender socioeconomic status political affiliation religious belief and alike,” said Marcos.

With the assumption of new PNP Chief General Rodolfo Azurin Jr., Marcos said he believed that the PNP is in good hands.

Marcos vouched for Azurin’s ability to lead the PNP to the right direction in line with his administration’s goal especially in economic recovery by making the Philippines a better place to live.

For his part, Azurin enjoined the men and women of the PNP to remain steadfast to the realization of a better PNP that will serve the best interest of the Filipino people and the country.

He committed to measure up with the national strategic direction set by Marcos that aims to secure food and energy sufficiency, inclusive growth, sustainable development, education and public health for the country founded on peace and unity.

“In the months and years ahead and in the final tradition of service, honor and justice, let us strive to be the catalyst of good governance, excellence, professionalism and integrity, ever staying faithful and loyal to the Constitution, the Philippine flag and the duly constituted authorities in dispensing our law enforcement and public safety duty,” he said.

“It will also be a year of continuing change for the organization as we remain resolute in improving police work and capabilities and cleansing our ranks of misfits and scalawags,” he added. (SunStar Philippines)
