THE Manila Electric Company (Meralco) announced on Monday, August 8, 2022, the rate reduction for its consumers, which will reflect in their August bills.

In a statement, Meralco said the rate per kilowatt-hour (kWh) will go down by 20.87 centavos.

This meant that there will be around P42 reduction in the total bill of a residential customer consuming 200 kWh.

Meralco said the generation charge for August went down by 19.44 centavos per kWh to P6.5812 per kWh from P6.775 per kWh in July due to the decrease in charges from Power Supply Agreements (PSA).

The transmission charges for residential customers, on the other hand, increased by P2.35 centavos per kWh while other charges registered a net decrease of P0.0018 per kWh.

“Higher excess energy of some PSAs, which are priced at discount, also contributed to the decrease,” Meralco said.

In July, Meralco was ordered by the Energy Regulatory Commission to refund over P21 billion to its customers.

This will translate to a lower electricity bill to Meralco consumers in the next 12 months. (SunStar Philippines)
