A DEAD man was found floating in Butuanon River in Mandaue City.

The victim was identified as 23-year-old Ronnel J. Jumao-as, a resident of Sitio Lub-ang, Barangay Casuntingan, Mandaue City.

The body was discovered near Zone Ahos in Barangay Paknaan around 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022.

Lt. Col. Franco Rudolf Oriol, deputy city director for operation and spokesperson of the Mandaue City Police Office, said Jumao-as’ family reported him missing on Monday, Aug. 8.

He said the victim was drinking with friends in Sitio Orel, Barangay Banilad on Saturday, Aug. 6.

On Tuesday morning, a male resident in Zone Ahos called the police after he found a man, later identified as Jumao-as, floating in the river in a prone position near his residence along the mangroves.

Personnel of the Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office responded to the report.

After they arrived in the area, they tried to revive Jumao-as, who was later pronounced dead as he had no more vital signs.

Oriol said the initial reports stated that an intoxicated Jumao-as fell into the river while on his way home.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine if foul play was involved.
