THE Talisay City Government will prioritize the misting of public and private schools in anticipation of the return of face-to-face classes later this month.

Dr. Lino Alanzado, head of the City Health Office, said his staff has already inspected the Talisay City Science High School in Barangay Poblacion. He said the school was the first to request his office for the operation.

Up next will be the Biasong Elementary School, he said. Barangay Biasong is one of the barangays in the city that have reported high cases of dengue.

Talisay City was earlier identified as having one of the highest dengue cases in Cebu Province.

Alanzado said that although they are undermanned, they will do their best to mist schools before classes start.

Meanwhile, City Councilor Eduardo Gullas III, committee on education chairman, said they will find a way to augment city personnel who are conducting the misting.

Gullas believes schools in the city will want their premises misted to kill mosquitoes that carry the dengue virus.

He urged households to remove any space or container that can hold stagnant water, which is the breeding ground for dengue mosquitoes, to protect everyone, especially children, from the infection.

"Usa na ang mga repellent lotion sa mga bata pero sa ato lang himuon sab ang angay nga buhaton before mo sugod ang klase karong August 22 (We will do what needs to be done before classes start on Aug. 22, but parents can also apply repellent lotion on their children as protection),” Gullas said.

The Department of Education 7 launched the Brigada Eskwela program in Talisay City on Monday, Aug. 8, 2022. (BBT)
