THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 2nd District Division will help install school pedestrians in Talisay City and repaint the faded ones in preparation for the start of limited face-to-face classes on August 22, 2022.

DPWH District Engineer Leslie Anthony Molina said in a media interview on Tuesday, August 9, 2022 that they will start working on the installation and repainting jobs next week.

"Masugdan na namo next week, karon nga bulan ato na nang ipatuman," said Molina.

(This can be done next week, within this month).

Molina had earlier met the traffic officials from Talisay and its neighboring cities to talk about the putting up of pedestrian lanes in schools located along the national highway to ensure the road safety of students.

"Kon magbutang mi ug mga pedestrian lanes along the national highway, unahon gyud na namo ang duol sa eskwelahan," Molina said.

(If we put pedestrian lanes along the national highway, we will definitely prioritize the ones near the school).

For those schools in interior barangays, Molina said they will also install pedestrian lanes there depending on the request of their school principals.

"Pero sa mga eskwelahan along the national highway kami na lang mohimo ana bisan walay request at our own initiative," Molina added.

(But for those schools along the national highway, we will be the ones doing it (installation of pedestrian lanes) even if there is no request).

Molina said the DPWH is also willing to help repaint school classrooms and do carpentry works that will be done by their maintenance personnel once they receive a request.

"Ang atong maintenance personnel karon na-busy lang gyud kay sige man og ulan pero naa mi tanan motabang mi unsay mga pintalanan didto sa mga eskwelahan," dugang ni Molina.

(Our maintenance personnel are just busy with their jobs due to several days of continuous rainfall but we are here to help in the painting of classrooms when needed).

Molina, however, said that they could not help schools that need major repair since these require a bigger budget allocation. (BBT, TPT)
