A MAN was found dead inside the bunkhouse of a hardware store in Barangay Cabancalan, Mandaue City on Wednesday morning, Aug. 10, 2022.

SSgt. Jeyson Flores, chief investigator of the Mandaue City Police Station 4, identified the victim as 62-year-old Antonio Tamaca, a native of Dalaguete in southern Cebu.

Flores told SunStar Cebu the body was discovered around 10 a.m. and was reported at noon.

The victim had been working for JRA Surplus, owned by Alex Remedia, for the last 20 years.

According to his co-workers, Tamaca had a drinking session with a friend the night before. When one of them went to wake him up in the morning, Tamaca was lying in bed in his own vomit and was dead.

Based on police assessment, Tamaca died last night because his body was already stiff and his mouth was covered with ants.

Remedio, who described the victim as a good man and a loyal helper, said he still could not believe Tamaca is gone because the latter was very active.

Police are waiting for the permission of Tamaca’s family to autopsy the body to determine the cause of death.

“Wala’y kaaway. Wala’y gipamati ma ni daw pero possible nga giataki ni ang biktima kay naginom ni pagkagabie unya nakita nga suka but so far, wa mi nakita nga naa’y indication of foul play (The victim had no enemies. He had no health issues but it’s possible he suffered a heart attack since he was drinking last night and we saw his vomit but so far there is no indication of foul play),” Flores said.

The victim’s body was brought to the Cebu Rolling Hills Memorial Chapels in Barangay Banilad. (GDC)
