Kai Sotto has given his commitment to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) to play for the Gilas Pilipinas men’s national basketball team in the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers’ fourth window later this month.
The 7-foot-3 big man’s presence will be key for the Philippines in matches against Lebanon in Beirut on August 25 and versus Saudi Arabia on the 29th in Manila.
“We are glad to have Kai into the Gilas fold and thank him for his proactive response to the call to play for flag and country for the August Qualifiers,” said SBP spokesperson Sonny Barrios.
Sotto recently returned to the Adelaide 76ers after he wasn’t selected in the NBA Draft.
Sotto joins a national pool that already has current Utah Jazz guard Jordan Clarkson, B. League standouts Kiefer Ravena, Dwight Ramos, Thirdy Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks Jr. and young studs Carl Tamayo, Kevin Quiambao, and Francis Lopez.
