ANTI-NARCOTICS operatives revealed that a trustee of a drug lord is the alleged mastermind of two former inmates who were arrested in a drug bust at 9 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022, in Sitio San Vicente, Barangay Bulacao, Cebu City.

The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA 7), however, refused to give to the media the name of the drug lord, who operates in Cebu City, so as not to jeopardize their follow-up operation.

The drug raid resulted in the arrest of Rey Steven Buenavista, 29, a resident of Barangay Bulacao, and Jonel Añasco, 44, of Buenavista town in Bohol.

Buenavista was the target of the raid headed by Jessie Cabutotan, team leader of PDEA 7.

At least 105 grams of substance believed to be shabu worth around P714,000 were seized from the suspects.

Añasco admitted to PDEA that he was released from jail last month after serving his sentence of 10 years in connection with his case for murder and qualified theft.

He said he killed somebody whom he just met in 2012 along Tagunol road in Cebu City.

Buenavista was also imprisoned in Cebu City Jail in 2020 for violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.

He was released last April.

The two, however, denied ownership of the illegal substance, saying they were just instructed by their boss to deliver the drugs.

PDEA 7 spokesperson Leia Alcantara said it took them two weeks to monitor the illegal drug activity of Buenavista before they conducted the raid.

She said Buenavista can be considered a city-wide high-value target as his illicit drug operation covers the entire Cebu City. (BBT, TPT)
