THE Department of Health (DOH) said Thursday, August 11, 2022, that the 10 close contacts of the country’s first case of monkeypox are still undergoing isolation.

In a statement, the DOH said all the close contacts showed no symptoms of monkeypox.

"To date, there has been no new case of monkeypox in the country," the agency said.

In July, the DOH detected the country’s first monkeypox case, a 31-year-old returning overseas Filipino. The person has already been tagged as recovered.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said over 16,000 cases of monkeypox have been detected in 75 countries.

The DOH said monkeypox is being transmitted through direct interaction, especially sexual intimate contact.

On Wednesday, DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire said the country may receive the monkeypox vaccine by 2023 through a partnership with the private sector. (SunStar Philippines)
