THE inmates of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City are set to dance again on Friday, August 12, 2022.

The CPDRC dancing inmates’ presentation is one of the highlights of the monthlong 453rd founding anniversary celebration of the Cebu Provincial Government.

The Province hired Cebuano dancesport choreographer and former Cebu City Sports Commission chief Edward Hayco to train the inmates.

“I would like to thank Ed Hayco for embracing this program and selflessly helping in coming up with new dance routines,” Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said.

The dancing inmates became popular in 2007 over their performance to Michael Jackson’s “Thriller.” Their dance video was uploaded on YouTube and got 52 million views.

In February 2010, Garcia ordered to suspend the show pending an investigation of proper accounting practices for donations received from admirers of the CPDRC program.

The CPDRC dancers were last seen performing the “Unity Dance” sponsored by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts in December 2020.
