Lorenzo takes on Tejones for WBF International belt

SANMAN Promotions-promoted Frenchman Guillaume Lorenzo faces tough Joe Tejones for the vacant World Boxing Foundation International lightweight belt in the main event of “Sanman Bubble X” on Aug. 24 at the Sanman Gym in General Santos City.

The 28-year-old Lorenzo had a winning streak in the Philippines before the Covid-19 pandemic hit the country. He won all his four fights in 2019, stopping Roland Magluyan, Ronel Petras, Ian Ligutan and Kim Lindog. He returned to France and didn’t see action up until late 2021, wherein he defeated Sylvian Chapelle. He immediately fought again just weeks after his last fight and lost to Mohamed Suleiman Kartoum by split decision.

In his return to the Philippines this year, Lorenzo retired former regional champion Jose Ocampo in the fifth round.

Though just 25 years old, Tejones has turned from prospect to a gatekeeper and tests up-and-coming fighters if they are ready for the next level.

Tejones dropped his last four fights against some talented names, the likes of Carl Jammes Martin, Al Toyogon and Japanese Tsuyoshi Tameda. Tejones handed promising Igorot prospect Natuplag his first career defeat after beating him by split decision.

Lorenzo is 8-4 with five knockouts, while Tejones is 13-10 with seven knockouts.

Former world title challenger Vince Paras (16-2-1, 14 KOs), World Boxing Organization No. 8 rated super flyweight contender KJ Cataraja (14-0, 12 KOs) and International Boxing Federation No. 9 ranked minimumweight Joey Canoy (17-5-2, 9 KOs) will also be fighting in the same card. / EKA
