Passenger claims sexual harassment against taxi driver

THE Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is now investigating the claim of a woman passenger that a taxi driver made sexual advances on her.

The woman, whose name is being withheld, posted on her social media account on August 10, a picture of the driver touching her legs while they were traveling.

The woman, who was seated at the front seat, also managed to take a video of the incident, which she likewise posted on social media.

Lieutenant Colonel Sherlock Gabana, spokesperson of BCPO, said the case is now referred to the Women and Children’s Complaints Desk.

“Passengers especially, women should occupy the taxi’s back seat to avoid any untoward incident,” Gabana said.

In case they are seated in the front seat and the driver tries to harm them, he said they should take a video or call their friends and family members.

Gabana added that it would be best to report similar incidents to the police.

The police also urged all the taxi operators to require their drivers to submit clearances like those from the police and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to determine their backgrounds.

“We want to ensure that our passengers are safe while riding a taxi here. Let’s help each other to avoid similar incidents,” Gabana said.

They are also intensifying their visibility patrol to prevent the possible operation of lawless elements in various barangays, he added.
