DENGUE cases in Bacolod City have continued to increase, now by 232.4 percent, as of August 6, 2022, compared to the same period last year, the local health office reported.

Records of the City Health Office (CHO) showed that the city had a total of 565 dengue cases with nine fatalities from January 1 to August 6, 2022 which is higher than the157 cases and two deaths for the same period last year.

Of the total number, Barangay Mansilingan had the highest number of cases with 56.

It is followed by Barangay Taculing with 38; Estefania - 37; Tangub - 36; Singcang-Airport - 34; Villamonte - 31; Alijis and Sum-ag – 29 each; Mandalagan and Cabug - 24 each; Handumanan-20; and Granada with 18.

CHO Head Dr. Ma. Carmela Gensoli said they are now conducting spraying and fogging in various barangays including the schools to prevent the increase in dengue infections.

She said the public should continue to practice the 4S program of the Department of Health (DOH).

The 4S means “Search and destroy” mosquito-breeding sites, practice “Self-protection measures” such as wearing of long pants and long-sleeved shirts, and daily use of mosquito repellent), “Seek early consultation” and “Support fogging/spraying”.

Research showed that two most prominent species of mosquitoes that transmit viruses are Aedes aegypti in enclosed areas and Aedes albopictus mosquito which stays in open spaces.
