NEGROS Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the new scholarship program grantees of the provincial government for school year 2022 to 2023.

The signing held at the O Hotel in Bacolod City Thursday, August 10, was witnessed by Sangguniang Panlalawigan Committee on Education Chairman Fifth District Board Member Rita Gatuslao and Negros Occidental Scholarship Program Division (NOSP) Head Karen Dinsay.

For this school year, a total of 1,190 incoming scholars from the various cities and municipalities of the province were granted scholarships that include free tuition for private schools, as well as book and uniform allowances.

They underwent a series of examinations and interviews before qualifying for the scholarship program.

Lacson said that the scholarship agreement signing is a big step towards the goal of making education accessible.

This was also to open the doors of possibilities to the less privileged but deserving Negrense students, Lacson said.

"May this scholarship equip you with the necessary training you need to be able to transcend your limitations and be the best you can be," he said.

The governor advised the scholars to take their education and training seriously so they can boost their confidence as individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors to the community, society and nation.

The provincial scholars who graduated with honors for School Year 2021 to 2022 were also recognized.

Among the scholarship categories managed by the NOSP are District Educational Scholarship, Pagkaon Scholarship, Pagkaon Scholarship - Food Technology, Pagkaon - Degree Completion Scholarship, Indigenous People's (IP) Scholarship, Degree Completion Scholarship, Negros Occidental Provincial Medical and Nursing Scholarship - Medicine, Negros Occidental Provincial Medical and Nursing Scholarship - Nursing, Provincial Educational Assistance to Capitol Employees – Post Graduate Studies, Provincial Educational Assistance to Capitol Employees – Bachelor's Degree, Persons With Disabilities Scholarship, and Overseas Filipino Workers Scholarship.
