A 23-YEAR-OLD farmer who could no longer bear the verbal attacks shot his 75-year-old neighbor in Purok 3, Barangay Esperanza, Aloguinsan town, midwest Cebu around 7:45 a.m. Friday, August 12, 2022.

Staff Sergeant Marvin Hubahib, desk officer of Aloguinsan Police Station, identified the victim as Exequiel Yami, 75, also a farmer, and the suspect as Ricardo Dequiado.

Yami was brought to Carcar District Hospital after sustaining two gunshot wounds. He is now in stable condition.

Hubahib said the suspect got mad at the victim, as the latter would always reprimand him every time he brings his carabao to a pond in front of the victim's house.

"Ang biktima nagkaon atubangan sa ilang payag, niagi ang suspek kuyog sa iyang kabaw. Iyang gibadlong ang suspek nga di patugyawan sa tabay pero nagkalalis ni sila, dayon nikuha ang suspek sa iyang armas," Hubahib said.

(The victim was eating in front of their hut when the suspect passed by along with his carabao. He then told the suspect not to bring the animal to the pond, but they argued and the suspect got a gun.)

The victim said he reprimanded Dequiado because of the unpleasant smell of his carabao's feces at the pond.

He added that the water in the pond could no longer be used for flushing toilets, watering the plants and other purposes after being contaminated.

The suspect fled after the incident and is now being hunted by the police.

The police, however, were not able to recover the empty shells from the scene. (GDC, TPT)
