DESPITE the end of the military drills of China, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Friday, August 12, 2022, urged overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Taiwan to maintain their vigilance over the prevailing political tension there.
In a press briefing, DMW Secretary Susan Ople said it would be better if OFWs will remain vigilant, much like how she instructed the DMW personnel in Taiwan.
"We have instructed our three labor attaches in Taiwan to remain vigilant and visible to OFW communities, employers, and other stakeholders,” Ople said.
So far, she said OFWs in the area in between China and Taiwan are safe.
This, she said, was after Philippine Labor Attache David Des Dicang was able to speak to 30 OFWs in Kinmen Island, which is just 6 kilometers away from Xiamen, China and 300 kilometers away from Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
“They are all safe and under the care of their employers,” Ople related.
China earlier announced the end of its military drills that are being held close to Taiwan.
