THE Lapu-Lapu City Government has yet to determine how much it will spend or set aside to support its official contingent for this year’s Pasigarbo sa Sugbo on August 28, 2022.

This was what Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan told SunStar Cebu on Sunday, Aug. 14, adding that they have yet to finalize the amount that will be used for the event.

Chan said the budget will be taken from the City’s Tourism Cultural & Historical Affairs Commission.

He said the money will be spent on costumes and choreography.

The mayor clarified that the Cebu Provincial Government did not allocate any funding for the City’s contingent.

He earlier said the City would spend for its presentation despite Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia’s promise to subsidize some of the expenses.

Chan justified the spending by saying that the presentation will not only be shown during the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo but also to every visitor entering the city.

He noted that the City lacks promotion as well as representatives to show the city’s beautiful spots.

“If we can invest, more investors will come in. Kung makahibawo sila nga ingon ani diay kanindot sa atoang syudad. Nga naa ang airport, seven minutes lang. Naa ang five-star hotel ug resorts. Ingon ana ba (If people will discover how beautiful our city is. That the airport is only seven minutes away. That there are five-star hotels and resorts. Something like that),” the mayor said.

Chan said the City’s contingent will be composed of 100 dancers, including the crew.

He said rehearsals are in full swing as the contest draws near.

Lapu-Lapu City will be joining the event for the first time as a guest contingent.

Fifty local government units in Cebu are expected to participate in the Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, which is one of the highlights of the month-long celebration of Cebu Province’s 453rd founding anniversary.

It will be held at the Cebu City Sports Center grounds, after a two-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Admission will be free.
