TWO governors of Davao Region were elected as top officials of the League of Provinces of the Philippines (LPP).

Davao Oriental Governor Corazon Malanyaon was elected as the new Vice President for Local Taxation and Revenues, while Davao de Oro Governor Dorothy Gonzaga was elected as Chairperson for Legal Affairs.

Both officials took their oath officiated by President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. at the Malacañang Palace on Thursday, August 11, 2022.

In a Facebook post from the Provincial Government of Davao Oriental, Marcos, during the meeting, highlighted “the importance of planning as he stressed the need for better coordination mechanisms between the national and local governments, especially in agriculture and food supply.”

Malanyaon, a Certified Public Accountant and a Lawyer by profession with a specialization as a corporate and tax lawyer, said she is committed to sharing her expertise in helping push the President’s vision for development and achieve the country’s shared goal for progress by advancing its economic and social growth.

The governor is also pushing to work on economic recovery in the province through agriculture to enhance the living conditions of the people.

Gonzaga, as of writing, has not issued any statement following her appointment.

The neophyte politician is the first-ever female governor-elect in Davao de Oro since its separation from Davao del Norte in 1998 as an independent province.

She formerly served as judge of Regional Trial Court Branch 4 in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, and associate justice of the Court of Appeals (CA) --- appointed by former President Rodrigo Duterte.

LPP is an organization composed of governors of the provinces in the Philippines. All of the 81 provinces are members of the organization

Aside from Malanyaon and Gonzaga, former Davao City Second District Representative Mylene Garcia-Albano also took her oath in front of Marcos after being appointed as the Philippine Ambassador to Japan. She is the first to hold the said position.

Garcia-Albano was a former Representative of the Davao City 2nd District, serving three consecutive terms from 2010 to 2019.

She is the sister of current Second District Representative Vincent Garcia. RGL
