THE League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) will leave the fate of the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) to the hands of Congress.

Mayors from the different parts of the country are currently gathered in Cebu City Tuesday, August 16, 2022, for a three-day convergence.

LCP President and Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama talked on behalf of the league and said that he had already discussed the electoral matter with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.

According to Rama, the President told him that the matter should be left to the decision of Congress whether it should be postponed or not.

On Tuesday, August 16, the House Suffrage and Electoral Reforms committee voted to postpone the December 2022 BSKE elections to December 4, 2023.

Rama added that they will include the BSKE in their convergence to listen to the concerns of other mayors about the matter.

The mayor added that LCP will support whatever the decision or path that will be taken by this administration regarding the BSKE.

"We assured the President that the league will never be a stumbling block to the wishes and desires of this administration," said Rama. (IRT)
