“Better Call Saul” is regarded as one of television’s finest titles in recent years. The “Breaking Bad” spin-off is part of the Top 100 TV Shows of All Time according to IGN, currently taking the 54th spot (“Breaking Bad” is currently in the fifth spot).
Operating under the shadows of a widely renowned, groundbreaking title like “Breaking Bad,” the idea of a prequel was met with cynicism among critics and fans alike. However, since its debut in February 2015, the “Breaking Bad” universe was greatly expanded, thanks to the outstanding writing, direction and acting in “Better Call Saul.”
“Better Call Saul” follows the story of lawyer Saul Goodman (starring Bob Odenkirk), the attorney who appeared in the “Breaking Bad” series, and his humble beginnings and inevitable descent into the traps of a drug empire.
The series finale aired on Aug. 16, which means, you can now watch the entire show on Netflix without having to wait for a year before another season comes out.
With twists, turns and jaw-dropping unravelings spread throughout its 63 episodes, “Better Call Saul” is the very definition of must-watch TV show.

Punches above its own weight-class
In the world of prequels, “Better Call Saul” is just in a league of its own. Rich background stories of old characters, new characters with complex moralities—it’s a prequel that’s as good if not better than the original source material. While it stands apart as its own great show, it still does a good job of making its viewers appreciate “Breaking Bad” in a whole new light—or more curious if they haven’t seen it yet.
Multiple genres in one show
While it’s generally a crime and legal drama, it’s also a black comedy spiced up with a ton of suspense. The best part about it? It tiptoes in the middle of what is considered right and wrong. There are no antagonists or protagonists (at least, early on). There is only the evolution of Saul Goodman.
Artistic freedom
“Better Call Saul” is free to do what it wants to do artistically, and can expect viewers to be patient for the big payoff, thanks to “Breaking Bad.” That said, “Better Call Saul” does not squander the opportunity but makes the most out of it. It’s absolutely well-written. It’s well-paced. It’s a great break from the CGI-heavy productions of today.
