Village exec hurt, town official unscathed in gun attacks

TWO people, including a village official, were wounded while a municipal councilor and three others were unscathed in two separate shooting incidents in Zamboanga Peninsula, the police reported Tuesday, August 16, 2022.

Police Major Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said Leo Oyda, 50, a councilor in North Mapang village, Rizal, Zamboanga del Norte, was shot and wounded around 6:15 p.m. Monday.

Chang said that Oyda was standing in front of his bakeshop when an unidentified person driving a motorcycle stopped and opened fire hitting the victim.

Chang said Oyda was rushed to the hospital as the gunman sped off.

On the other shooting incident, Rebie Samasao, 37, was injured when five people, armed with M-16 Armalite rifles, opened fire at the residence of Councilor Julito Endoy of Bayog, Zamboanga del Sur around 9:25 p.m. Sunday.

Chang said that Endoy and three others—Meriam Bulay Endoy, 35, a Department of Education employee, Dodoy Bawod Pandayan, and Jack Luao Lumadang, both Bayog municipal government employees—were unscathed.

Chang said that Endoy and his companions were having dinner at the residence of the town official at Purok 2 in Balukbahan, Bayog, when the suspects arrived and opened fire.

She said the suspects were identified as Oscar Dumandos Rosing, Arjun Dumandos Rosing, Angga Dumandos Rosing, Sammy Angcap Esparcia, and Emilio Angcap Esparcia Jr.

A manhunt was launched to arrest the five suspects who fled after the incident. (SunStar Zamboanga)
