Owner willing to sell property for Bacolod’s resettlement project

A PRIVATE property owner in Bacolod City already signified his willingness to sell his lot to the city government or the low-rise building project intended for resettlement, an official said Tuesday, August 16, 2022.

Councilor Vladimir Gonzalez, chairperson of the city council committee on urban poor, housing and resettlement, said he was tasked by Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to talk with the lot owner for the implementation of the project.

Benitez, along with Gonzales, held a meeting with the officials and residents of Barangay 39 over the weekend and discussed the proposed project.

“I already talked with the land owner on Monday and we discussed the details of the proposed project,” he said.

Gonzales added that two hectares land area, 1.1 hectares was already transferred to the name of the Province of Negros Occidental and the lot owner is willing to sell the remaining hectares to the city government.

“I already reported it to the mayor that the lot owner is willing to sell his lot to the city,” the councilor said.

Gonzalez noted that he will conduct an ocular inspection in the area for an assessment next week.

Earlier, Benitez said that they are eyeing to establish the Pabahay Program in the relocation site.

He said they already identified the locations for the on-site housing program and they are actually eyeing to provide 5,000 units for the first year of his term of office.

“Ideally, we would like to have it near the city or downtown area,” he added.
