TWO University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) teams will test the mettle of Mindanao-based squads as the Kadayawan 2022 Invitational Basketball Tournament unfurls at 3 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, at the Rizal Memorial Colleges (RMC) Petro Gazz Arena.

Admission is free.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) regional director Glenn Escandor said, "After two years, magkakaroon na ulit tayo ng Kadayawan basketball. Sasali ang Adamson University at Far Eastern University (After two years, we will have our Kadayawan basketball again. Joining us are the Adamson University and Far Eastern University)."

Escandor, during the Gilas Pilipinas Girls Under-18 tryout over the weekend at the Arcadia Active Lifestyle Center, said Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte wanted to revive the invitational basketball event for the 37th Kadayawan sa Davao Festival to send a message to the public that it's all back to normal in the city, except that minimum public health standards (MPHS) must be observed.

Aside from the AU Falcons and FEU Tamaraws, also joining are Pilipinas Super League champion Davao Occidental Tigers, GenSan Bulalakaw, Zamboanga Valientes, and Team Davao.

Games will be played every day from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. on August 18 (RMC) and on August 19 to 21 at the University of the Philippines (Usep) Gym.

Tournament coordinator Solitaria said the champion will receive P100,000 while the runner-up will pocket P50,000, and the third placer will claim P30,000. The fourth and fifth finishers will go home with P20,000 and P10,000, respectively.

Solitaria said the games schedule will be announced after the coaches' lunch meeting on August 18.

"We will use a new tournament format - the single round-crossover format. Six teams will be grouped into two brackets. They will play a single round robin per bracket and then play one game against the other bracket," he added. MLSA
