THE Talisay City Police Station has set aside one day of every month so police personnel can familiarize with their issued firearms and practice their marksmanship.

Station chief Lieutenant Colonel Randy Caballes said it’s important for his men to know how to handle firearms while in the line of duty.

Aside from practicing their shooting skills, they must also know how to store their guns safely as well as know how to clean them, he said.

"That’s why our police personnel must practice regularly so they won’t forget how to use their guns. Plus they must know how to clean their firearms properly and keep them safe,” he said in Cebuano.

Caballes said the Talisay City Government has offered to shoulder the cost of bullets that will be used during the activity.

Meanwhile, the police official urged his men to always be patient and to exercise maximum tolerance when responding to alarms.

However, when their lives are put at risk, they must be able to protect themselves by using their guns properly, he said.

So far this year, Talisay police have been forced to use their firearms twice after suspects engaged them in a shootout. (BBT, PJB)
