2nd test confirms high fecal coliform level in Cordova waters

THE result of the second water quality check off Cordova in Mactan Island, Cebu, shows that the fecal coliform level has reached 2,400 milliliters (ml).

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) 7 conducted the test in the vicinity of floating and fixed cottages in the town on August 10, 2022.

Mayor Cesar “Didoy” Suan made the announcement during the stakeholders’ forum at the town’s gym in Barangay Poblacion on Wednesday, August 17.

The forum was attended by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and representatives of different government agencies.

Suan had said that the water off Cordova was no longer suitable for swimming after the first water quality check showed a fecal coliform level of 1,300 ml.

According to the DENR website, “the standard coliform level for coastal waters which is safe for swimming and other similar recreational activities is at only 100 most probable number per 100 ml.” (MKG, PJB)
