THE fifth most wanted person in Cebu province was arrested early morning Friday, August 19, 2022, for a child abuse case filed against him following a complaint raised by his 10-year-old son.

The arrest was made around 6 a.m. Friday by personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) Cebu Field Unit who were armed with a warrant for the suspect’s arrest.

SunStar is withholding the name of the suspect to protect his son, who told police that he was mauled by his father.

Police said the 35-year-old suspect was still asleep when they knocked on his residence in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.

The warrant of arrest was issued by Judge Ester Veloso of Regional Trial Court Branch 6 in Cebu City on January 14, 2022. She recommend P80,000 in bail for the suspect’s temporary liberty.

The suspect is facing charges for violation of Republic Act 7610, also known as “an act providing for stronger deterrence and special protection against child abuse, exploitation and discrimination, and for other purposes.”

Police Lieutenant Colonel Joey Caise, chief of the CIDG-Cebu City Field Unit, said the suspect has been listed as the number 5 most wanted person in Cebu province.

The suspect was also charged in 2016 for physical injuries. In 2018, another case, this time for possession of illegal drugs, was filed against him. He was imprisoned for both cases but was able to get out of jail after serving his sentence. (BBT/LMY)
