There’s nothing more homey than the smell of freshly-baked bread wafting in the air in a cozy, brick-walled cafe. Corner Bakery combines both of these elements and more in its 15 years of serving Cebu with decadent cakes, pastries and bread.
Michelle Ng, the owner of the bakery, recalls how Corner Bakery began. It began simply as a hobby she did in the comfort of her home.
She shared: “I have been fond of baking since then. I lived in a condo before, and whenever I baked, the neighbors would ask me if what I was baking was for sale. By 2007, we had decided to open up a shop.”
Corner Bakery spruced up its interiors for a more cozy feel but still remains at the same location since its opening in 2007. Some aspects of the bakery still hold fragments from the old shop that became decorative pieces in the new interior of the bakery. It links back to the humble beginnings of the business and is a testament to how far pure passion can take you.
Ng wanted to serve Cebuanos the delight of home-baked goods, tinged with her love for cooking and baking. No one can deny the certain appeal a home-cooked meal has—one can certainly feel the love that is incorporated in hearty meals.
Corner Bakery is also a two-time winner for Best Lasagna in SunStar’s Best of Cebu 2020 and 2021. Ng expressed that she is blessed to be merited with such a prestigious award. It made her witness first-hand the fruit of her and her staff’s labor.
She said: “It was a surprise. The point I’ve always instilled with my staff is, ‘I have a recipe. You have to follow it to the dot.’ I think it is consistency that got us here.”
Other than its award-winning lasagna, Corner Bakery also offers other food items. It serves various rice meals such as its Beef Salpicao and Braised Pork Belly. For Italian cuisine lovers, Corner Bakery also serves unique pasta and pizza dishes.
The bakery’s artisan bread, homemade Cebuano delicacies and signature coffee and non-coffee drinks are a must-try as well.
