Pangan: Gross wastage

THE Senate should push through with its plan to investigate DOH and other individuals over the wastage of multi billion pesos worth of much-needed vaccines acquired the term of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

This act should not be lost in our memory and a thorough investigation should be considered in earnest as it affects our conscious effort to stem the pandemic.

The wastage could have been avoided if we rolled the vaccines out without too much restrictions. Why, our LGUs should have been tapped to distribute and use the vaccines for all their constituents!

Latest report shows that COVAX, the facility which donates huge amount of vaccines to deserving countries may no longer entertain request from the Philippines for another free supply of vaccines. See how our recklessness in rolling out vaccines resulted in our failure to ask for more free vaccines. Sayang.

Authorities should pinpoint who are accountable for this vaccine fiasco and prosecute the same in the proper fora. The P12 billion worth of wasted vaccines could have been put to better use had we've been strict in monitoring expirations of the vaccines and not be choosy in dispensing them to all. As it is, politics may have played a role in the discretion as to rolling these out to individuals. Masyado tayong mapili at maarte. Sus.

I'm baffled why so much importance is given the Procurement Service of the Department of Budget and Management in the procurement of equipment and supplies.

This time, reports have it that the laptops purchased for the Department of Education were grossly overpriced and when tested they are of inferior quality and definitely will not last long. Only a portion of the intended teacher-beneficiaries were given the laptops due to their stiff costs.

What went wrong again, gentlemen? It seemed that, per canvassing, the price of the laptops was way low (some P30,000.00) as compared to the quoted purchase price by the PS-DBM (P52,000.00 plus) and therefore was grossly disadvantageous to the government!

Heads should roll in this latest fiasco and not only the small fry or employees. Even the high officials dipped their fingers in the dirty cookie jar.
