Man killed, wife hurt in motorcycle-truck collision

A 49-YEAR-OLD vegetable vendor died, while his wife was injured after they were hit by a truck along the national highway of Barangay Tubig-Bitoon, Dumanjug town in southern Cebu Sunday evening, August 21, 2022.

The incident happened around 7:30 a.m. when the Isuzu Elf Truck driven by a 17-year-old resident (name withheld for being a minor) of Barangay Tubod-Dugoan, Dumanjug, a buko trader, reportedly encroached on the other lane.

Master Sergeant Romeo Legaspi Jr., desk officer of Dumanjug Police Station, identified the fatality as Johenes Omerez, while injured was Jonenes’ wife, Emma, of Barangay Cabatbatan, Dumanjug.

The victims were rushed to Barili District Hospital.

Legaspi told SunStar Cebu that Omerez sustained severe injuries after his leg was hit.

Omerez was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Based on police's investigation, Omerez and his wife came from Dumanjug proper headed for Barangay Cabatbatan, while the truck driver was going downhill when the collision happened.

Emma said the truck was running fast.

The family of the 17-year-old truck driver reached out to the family of the victims and promised to shoulder the burial and financial expenses. (GDC)
