De Leon: 'Forda' explanation ang ferson': And what does that even mean?

If you've been watching the live streams of Samantha Rascal on the social entertainment app, Kumu, or simply scrolling online for the past few weeks, you might have encountered a number of people using the term "forda" and "ferson" to talk about about certain situations and their favorite things.

From "Forda gala" when going out to "Forda ghosted ang ferson" when talking about dating trends, it has indeed become a way of speaking that got us all confused at some point, if not subtly cringing.

So here we go. "Forda" is shorthand for "for the" and "ferson" means, well, "person." In short, the expression means that someone is into a certain thing, identifying themselves as that type of person. Eg. "forda coffee ang ferson” means someone who enjoys a cup of coffee. It's that simple, yet nuanced.

Like most internet trends these days, the phrase originated from the social platform, Tiktok.

In the short clip dated and shared on June 11, Tiktok user named Chrishanna Luisa Olavidez Austria – who was flushed at that time- greets her followers as "mga ferson" before calling herself a "drunk girl." Just before she ends the video she catches a glimpse of herself in full view and says "forda red girl." The video has since reached 21 million views and racked in over 1 million followers for Chrishanna.

Although the the video brought the meme to new heights, Chrishanna has actually been coining the term since March 2022.

Fast forward today, the trend has become a go-to internet slang for millennials and Gen Zs.
