9 NPA rebels surrender in Surigao del Norte

NINE members of the New People's Army (NPA) surrendered to government authorities in Surigao del Norte, the military reported.

The rebels, who surrendered to the 30th Infantry Battalion in Barangay Mahanub, Gigaquit in Surigao del Norte, were identified as Edelberto Maisog, Grace Jubasan Bacalan, Jessie Siton Roxas, Chris Gire Libres, Nikki Bago Pinao, Alvin Palen, and Janiza Galupo.

Two surrenderers have their names still being validated.

The military also recovered 16 firearms from the nine NPA rebels.

According to Major General Wilbur Mamawag, the 4th Infantry Division commander, the neutralization of the nine rebels will lead to the eventual collapse of the remnants of the communist terrorist group operating in Surigao del Norte.
