Asistio wins as PCL-NegOcc prexy against surprise challenger

LA CARLOTA City Councilor Julius Martin Asistio, son of Negros Occidental Fourth District Representative Juliet Marie Ferrer, was elected president of the Philippine Councilors League (PCL) in the province at the L'Fisher Hotel in Bacolod City Monday, August 22, 2022.

Asistio defeated his surprise challenger, Binalbagan town Councilor Jerry Yulo. He garnered 270 votes against the 28 votes of the latter.

Former PCL-Negros Occidental president and Silay City Councilor Ryan Milos Romeo Gamboa was elected vice president. He was unopposed.

Secretary General Councilor Virgie Pastor of Escalante City was elected to the position defeating Councilor Jodybonne Octavio of Hinoba-an.

Other elected officers were Toboso Councilor Richard Jaojoco as treasurer, Himamaylan City Councilor Janet Villafranca as auditor, Talisay City Councilor Rolin Albert Melton as business manager, and Victorias City Councilor Audie Malaga as public relations officer.

The Board of Directors included Councilors Bobby Barrido Sr. of Manapla; Rey Cordero of Kabankalan City; Mikaela Escalante of Manapla; Aurelio Garita of Pontevedra; Victor Michael Javellana of Bago City; Philip Gerald Maisog of San Carlos City; and Jason Tupas of Hinoba-an.

Asistio thanked his fellow councilors for electing him, as well as Gamboa for his service as the league's outgoing president.

He vowed to continue whatever programs that are beneficial to the PCL-NegOcc members and would also come up with his own.

Serving as Commission on Elections were Interior and Local Government Provincial Director Roselyn Quintana, Manapla Councilor Elizabeth Andrino and Atty. Maki Angel Ascalon.
