A 33-YEAR-OLD man allegedly killed his father and injured his elder brother over a land dispute in Sitio To-ong, Barangay Sam-ang, Toledo City on Friday morning, August 26, 2022.

Senior Master Sergeant Alfredo Barquin of Toledo City Police Station identified the fatality as Antonio Mercader Sr., 64.

Mercader Sr. succumbed to stab wounds inflicted by his son, Nestor, while Eduard, 39, also got injured after he pacified the two.

Barquin told SunStar Cebu that the suspect confronted his father in his house for trying to sell their common land without his knowledge.

At the height of their argument, Nestor picked up a sickle and attacked his father, who put up a fight with his bolo.

Eduard intervened upon hearing the commotion but he was also assaulted by the suspect.

The victims were brought to Toledo City Medical Hospital, where Mercader Sr. was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police recovered the bladed weapons used by the victim and the suspect.

"Wala ra man ang suspek sa nahitabo sa iyang amahan. Grabe niya kalagot siguro nga matud niya wala daw siya nagmahay sa iyang gibuhat nga pagpatay sa biktima," Barquin said.

(The suspect did not show remorse about what happened to his father. He seemed he hated his father so much that he did not regret killing the victim).

The suspect is currently detained at Toledo City Police Station, waiting for the charges of frustrated murder and parricide to be filed against him. (GDC, TPT)
