A SPY of the New People’s Army (NPA) surrendered to authorities in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, a top police official said Friday, August 26, 2022.

Police Colonel Richard Verceles, operations chief of the Area Police Command-Western Mindanao, identified the NPA spy who surrendered as Efren Medina Sr., 64, who belonged to the NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee (WMRPC).

Verceles said that Medina surrendered around 10 p.m. Thursday, August 25, in Dapiwak village, Dumingag, Zamboanga del Sur.

Verceles said that Medina also served as a courier of foodstuff and other basic needs of the NPA rebels in Dumingag.

He said Medina took his oath of allegiance to the government and was witnessed by government and police officials.

Medina was turned over in good health condition to his daughter, Nova Jane, an official of Dapiwak village, for his eventual reintegration into society. (SunStar Zamgoanga)
