FIVE persons, including a couple, were arrested in three separate buy-bust operations in Cebu City on Friday evening and Saturday dawn, August 26 and 27.

Operatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Central Visayas (PDEA 7) and Parian Police Station 1 arrested a certain Camela Julz Cañedo, 23, of P. Basubas Street, Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City.

The raiding team headed by Parian Police Station chief Major Efren Diaz Jr. swooped down on Cañedo in her lodging house in Colon Street, Barangay Parian, Cebu City on Friday evening.

Later on, a certain Vicente Perilla, 31, a welding shop helper from Mandaue City, was arrested on Imus Road, Barangay T. Padilla, Cebu City.

Both Cañedo and Perilla yielded suspected shabu amounting to P50,000.

Aside from the illegal drugs, an improvised shotgun (pugakhang) with two live bullets was also confiscated from Perilla.

In Sitio Missionaries, Barangay Suba, Cebu City, PDEA 7 also arrested drug suspects Roberto Yburan, also known as Pidoy, 32, and his wife, Maide Riza, 30, and cohort Melvin Christ Abesa, 35, both residents in the area, around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday.

Seized from them were around P340,000 worth of alleged shabu.

Leia Alcantara, spokesperson of PDEA 7, said the Yburan couple can dispose around 500 grams of shabu every week.

Alcantara said Roberto had just got out of Cebu City Jail due to his drug case. She added that Roberto's parents and Maide Riza's mother have also been imprisoned for similar offense. (BBT, TPT)
